Objectives

Objectives of the TRANSCAN-4 project.

Building on the success of previous phases, TRANSCAN-4 has established itself as a leading initiative in the funding of translational cancer research in Europe and beyond. The initiative, now in its fourth phase, is driven by the following strategic objectives, aimed at increasing scientific excellence, collaboration, sustainability, and research impact.

TRANSCAN-4 will support the alignment among national and regional, public and private funding programmes through the development of a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and the launch of at least four Joint Transnational Calls (JTCs), aligned with the EU Mission on Cancer and Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (EBCP).

The project also aims to mobilise and consolidate financial resources from participating funding organisations, while exploring innovative funding and collaboration approaches to support consortium sustainability and promoting joint activities.

A key priority of TRANSCAN-4 is to demonstrate the added value of transnational collaboration across research and innovation programmes. The initiative will assess the effectiveness of funding programmes, promote the dissemination of research findings to stakeholders, engage cancer patients and the broader public, and support the development of early-career researchers (ECRs).

In parallel, TRANSCAN-4 promotes Open Science and FAIR data principles to support accessible, interoperable, and reusable research data. It will encourage open research practices, provide training and leverage European research infrastructures to support the development of the future UNCAN.eu research data platform.
