Third phase of the European TRANSCAN initiative, supporting coordinated multinational translational cancer research projects.
TRANSCAN-3 is the third phase of the European TRANSCAN initiative and is funded under the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme as an ERA-NET Cofund action.
Launched in 2021, TRANSCAN-3 builds upon more than a decade of cooperation between national and regional funding organisations supporting translational cancer research across Europe and beyond.
The network brings together 31 funding organisations from 20 countries with the common objective of coordinating investments, aligning research priorities and supporting high-impact collaborative cancer research projects through Joint Transnational Calls.
TRANSCAN-3 aims to accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical applications that improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for patients.
During the project lifetime, TRANSCAN-3 implements a series of Joint Transnational Calls focused on major challenges in translational cancer research:
- JTC 2021 – Next generation cancer immunotherapy: targeting the tumour microenvironment.
- JTC 2022 – Novel translational approaches to tackle the challenges of hard-to-treat cancers from early diagnosis to therapy.
- JTC 2023 – Translational research on cancer epigenetics.
- JTC 2024 – Combination therapies against cancer: new opportunities for translational research.
TRANSCAN-3 represents the continuation of the long-standing European collaboration initiated by TRANSCAN and TRANSCAN-2, providing a sustainable framework for coordinating national and regional cancer research programmes and fostering excellence in translational cancer research.
