Second phase of the European TRANSCAN initiative, funded under Horizon 2020 to coordinate and strengthen translational cancer research programmes across Europe.
TRANSCAN-2 was the second phase of the European TRANSCAN initiative, funded under Horizon 2020 as an ERA-NET Cofund action. It built on the achievements of the first TRANSCAN ERA-NET and aimed to further align national and regional funding programmes in translational cancer research.
The project started in 2015 and continued the long-standing cooperation between ministries, funding agencies and cancer charities supporting translational cancer research across Europe.
During the TRANSCAN-2 phase, four Joint Transnational Calls were launched: JTC 2014, JTC 2015, JTC 2016 and JTC 2017.
These calls funded 49 transnational research projects, involving 247 researchers and mobilising more than €52 million of funding from national and regional organisations and the European Commission.
TRANSCAN-2 strengthened the coordination of cancer research funding in Europe and prepared the continuation of the programme through TRANSCAN-3.
